Hoop Dreams

My coworker, Ol' Mean Ass Cynthia is REALLY mean.

Her cubicle is on the opposite side of mine, but every morning, she likes to walk around to my side, and say "Good Morning".

This scares the heck out of me most of the time because she is TERRIBLY quiet when she moves. She doesn't walk, but she glides. It is VERY vampire or ghostlike, the way she moves around. She seems to get a sick kick out of walking up and scaring me.

That is so mean.

Well, we had an interesting convo before Christmas. We were discussing some paperwork, I believe, when she busts out with...

"Give me them earrings out of your ear. My baby needs some earrings."

*crickets*

It took a minute for all of that to register. Her baby is one of my House of LadyLee mascots, Chayse, who has been the subject of many a post over in these parts.

"No," I yelled.

What seemed like a slight argument started up. And I have to be careful about Ol' Mean Ass Cynthia. She's the type of broad who would knock me down and snatch the earrings out of my ears.

And I wanted NO parts of that.

"She can't have my earrings. I need to buy some more, so I will just buy Chayse a pair."

She gave me the blank stare. This meant that she was satisfied with that answer.

Now, I wear simple small gold hoop earrings. I will slit my throat if I have to match earrings with outfits. I wear sweats to work everyday- no need for anything fancy.

I'm a tomboy, and simple gold hoops gives me just a touch of feminity.

Chayse is a girly-girl, and wears big earrings. But her Grandma Christine said "She looks like a gypsy."

LOL!!

Poor child needed some earrings.

So I headed to the bootleg Discou.nt Mall on Old National Highway to pick up some earrings.

One thing I hate is dealing with surly Asian folk who sell jewelry. Yeah, we know you've been looking at negroes ALL day, and you don't like us. But doggonit, that's no reason to try to dupe me.

So they tried to sell me hoops that were not the same size. They tried to sell me hoops that had differing designs on them. Just weird stuff.

I FINALLY negotiated with one chick for some decent hoops that would fit Chayse's ears.

They had the NERVE to try and charge me 30 bucks for these, but I negotiated down to 18 bucks (which was still too much, but I got tired of arguing). I wanted a bigger set of hoops for myself, but they were REALLY tripping. So I will get those some other time.

So, I gave Ol' Mean Ass Cynthia the hoops. She actually said "thank you". Hmm... the woman has a somewhat nice side.

I got a call last night. "My baby wants to talk to you."

Chayse got on the phone. "Thank you, Miss LadyLee."

"You're welcome, baby," I said.

She then went on to talk and talk about some other stuff. (I have no idea what she was talking about. You know how kids can be.)

She even took a photo.

Those look good, Chayse.

Now, you don't look like a gypsy.

I told her she could just leave them in.

I told her to be sure not to lose them.

And Ol' Mean Ass Cynthia... don't run back up on me demanding my earrings if she does lose them.

Back. To. Work. I. Go.

2 weeks off.

It went by SO fast.

I owe, I owe, I owe... So back at work I go.

Ohhhhhh Lawd...

And this is how I feel:

*holler, wail, screech, fall out on floor in front of cubicle, and holler some more*

Somebody PLEASE fan me with the Obama Church fan.

I give myself a minute to cry...

Even allow myself to give the Oppressor the *side-eye*.

I know one thing... I'ma have to tell my boss to allow me half a minute just to get adjusted to the *shock* of being back at work. Hope no one bugs me too hard today, or they gonna get the cold death stare.

Shoot man, it's gonna take me alllll week just to get my bearings straight.

However much time I spend tripping about my job today, well, I will spend double the amount of time being thankful for my job.

That's the new order of the day.

Really though.

Now, I roll my sleeves up, and take a moment to make a plan for the day.

I purpose to make it do what it do.

This is gonna be a GREAT day.

Holidays are over ya'll... 'Tis sad, but it is true.

To all those going back to work today, have a good week... on purpose.

Happy Birthday, Serenity3-0

I'd like to wish my baby blog sista That Original Oldgirl
Serenity3-0, formerly Serenity23,
a very Happy 31st Birthday...

Yeah, that's an oooooldddd picture. LOL. It's 2009 now, ain't it? LOL

She is out of town on vacation right now. In a most disturbing post, she said she isn't going to be blogging anymore.

*crickets*

That ain't good. She is like, the Queen of Blogging, blogging 2 and 3 times a day at times. She has a huge young black womens fan base over there at the House of Serenity. There is much wailing amongst the masses. It don't bother me much, because we email and IM everyday... If you need to take a break, take a break man! DO YOU. Just make sure do you for you, that's all I say.

However, I called her and gently snapped for a couple of minutes. I had my say about this, got a good laugh out of her, then kept it moving.

Don't nobody go jump off a bridge. We gonna work on getting the chick back up and running!

Until then...

Happy Birthday, Oldgirl. Hope year 31 is a good one for you:)

Head Cold Essentials

Wooooo chile...

The Original Oldgirl LadyLee has been fighting a hellacious cold. It has busted up any plans I've had all week for my staycation. UGH.

I'd like to give a special shout to my baby sister Kentucky who lives in the upstairs wing of my house. Whenever she comes downstairs she has to hear me wail.

"Kentucky, I'm a right bit parched here. Brang me my water out the frigerator... and brang me my cell phone if you see it!!"

She brings it all. I can tell she is cussing me out in her mind. She's use to dealing with rowdy little childrens, so...

Luckily, I have all I need around me. I've only had to venture out once this week, and that was to get a few prescriptions filled. (And I was surprised how COLD it is in the ATL!)

But, I try not to be in and out of the house. This is hard when I have to work because the Oppressor don't give a dayum if I'm sick or not. For them, the rule is, I better wake up dead if I'm not coming to work. And that ain't good (or right).

So, although I am off, I do have the opportunity to be at home and have time to get better. I am on the tail end of said cold, so I may venture out today or tomorrow.

With that said...

If you find yourself getting a bit sickly, I have a list of essentials, no, NECESSITIES for the common cold. These things have made life a little easier during these strange times...

1. Tissue. Now I realized that something was REALLY wrong when I was sitting in church last Sunday. I did not only have the sniffles, but my nose was all runny. So after church, I headed straight to the drug store and prowled around for EXPENSIVE tissue. Gone are the days of grabbing a roll of toliet tissue and working it out. I didn't feel like dealing with a raw nose!

So, I go get that Puffs with the lotion in it.

But did you know, there are some Puffs now that got lotion, vitamin E AND Vicks Vapor Rub infused all up in it?

GLORY!!!

I'd like to shake the hand of the shawty that came up with that idea! My nose has sho nuff felt pampered! I declare this the official tissha of the House of LadyLee!

I have only a few sheets left. Shoot man... I'ma make those LAST!

LOL!

2. Lozenges. You gotta have some lozenges, man! My throat hasn't been a big problem, as it only bothers me in the morning. (I need to be slapped for sleeping with the ceiling fan on).

So while hanging out at the pharmacy waiting for some prescriptions to be filled, I saw these:

WOW. When's the last time you've seen some Sucrets. I haven't seen those since the 70s. I bet you young folks under the age of 30 know NOTHING about Sucrets.

And they are "Guaranteed... Made stronger to last Longer"!

Really though.

3. Orange Juice. Now when I get sickly, I know I need to jack up my Vitamin C intake. I usually have a jar of pure Vitamin C powder lying around, but I am out, and I ain't trekking out to the Health store way up in North Druid Hills to get any. I'll have to work that out the next time I'm out that way.

But, my second choice is orange juice. I do like the expensive stuff.

But sometimes, I have to take it to that other level.

Sometimes I make my own juice.

So I break out my trusty Jack Lalanne juicer.

That's right. I peel some oranges, and I get ta juicing.

Ya'll don't know NOTHING about that. You weren't ready for that, were you?

That's what's hot, babes! That's how you do it.

4. A good book. You always need a good book when you're sick. I perused several during this time, but the most interesting was a children's book.

My sister is getting a Masters in early childhood education so she has quite an, uh, eclectic selection of books. I found this one particularly interesting.

I read it twice in 5 minutes. LOL.

I will do an, uh, book review on it, later this month.

5.Soup. There's nothing like a good bowl of chicken soup. I have no appetite right now, but I have to eat something, so soup will do. And you know I can't STAND soup out of the can. It MUST be homemade.

Yeah, that's the good stuff there.

So, there you have it... all that I needed to see me through my cold.

Hope everyone is having a good new year thus far. It's day 2... 363 days to go 'til 2010.

Make it a good one! Make it count!
