Seen at Grandma's House, Part II

Grandma has a ton of books. I know she had over 3000 at one time. So now, there may be so many more. She loves to read.

Most of those books are religious books.  But some are just regular books on various subjects.

Here's a little booklet I saw at her house on the living room coffee table:

Boilin' and Bakin' in Boogar Hollow.

That sounds like some straight hillbilly Coal Miner's Daughter material.

It had some interesting recipes. Like this here recipe for chitlins...
Singlema loves chitlins. I think she will appreciate that.

And Flossie has a pretty good recipe for fried chicken.
Yes indeed. "Whack up a nice young chick'n".  That means cut it up. There's some "bakin' powders" and "sodie" in that recipe. That means it's going to be good and crispy.

And this here is for one of my favorite readers Mzinspiredmind, aka, Sam...

Way too much butter in that recipe. I don't think it takes that much butter, Sam.

And here's an average day in the life of Granmaw up in Boogar Hollow.

That's a long to-do list.

I found the foreword to the book most interesting:

There are some interesting life there.

1. Work hard.
2. Be enthusiastic about life
3. Realize that you have worth.
4. You are indispensible and necessary.
5. Don't waste time gossiping.
6. Mind your own business.
7. Don't feel sorry for yourself.
8. Be thankful for all things (health, family, and survival).

And I am sure there are other good things in that passage.  It was good to read it.

And Singlema... let me know how those chitlins turn out.

And Sam? Please save me a slice of that sweet potato pie.

Seen at Grandma's House, Part 1

I've seen some interesting things at Grandma's house...

And you know me. I snapped a few photos.

Whilst at Grandma's house, I saw a beautiful bowl of fruit on the table.

I went to grab a piece. When I did, I realized it was fake. And it wasn't the fake plastic. Each piece weighed a pound. Each piece was made marble.

I told my Uncle as I lifted several pieces, "You could kill a person with this heavy fruit."

He thought that was funny. Because he knew it was probably the truth.

And parked outside at the neighbor's house...

A Bug. I was mesmerized by the eyelashes on the headlights.

I've never seen that before. But it made sense.

It's a bug.... so I suppose it should have eyelashes.

That was a really nice, well kept car. Go, girl!

(I hope that's a girl's car.... O_o)

LadyLee Holiday Report

Alright, ya'll... The holiday is over.

Get back to work. RIGHT NOW.

I am trying to get ANOTHER day off. I sent a text message to the Excellent Boss, but she hasn't answered. It is 10 o'clock, and I am still perched on the sofa. Uh... maybe I should go on in at noon. We will see.

I think YA'LL should go to work. Not I.

I hope you had a good holiday weekend. Mine was what it was. I needed to get my meds right, and now I am all good, I suppose. I hate when I get caught slipping like that. I don't realize that I am feeling a bit off until way after the fact. Not a good thing.

My weekend was alright. It started off well. Me and my sister had dinner at the local noodle house. It was quite tasty! Here's my dinner that evening.

Scezhaun vegetables and rice. That was GOOD! Not spicy enough, but it was still good.

I woke up early Saturday morning and took Lucy Junior to the car wash. I have had that car since April, and I haven't had it washed. I don't do the "every two week" car wash thing. That is expensive. I wait as long as I can. I noticed she was a tad bit dusty. So off to the car wash for a good wash and a good hand wax!

Lucy Jr. is now squeaky squeaky clean. She sparkles brightly in the sunlight! And the insides are all vacuumed out. All I gotta do now is spray some smell goods inside and she'll be ready!!

I ran a few errands on Saturday. I would've liked to have gone to the movies, but that was a no go. I attempted to find some yellow baby yarn, but that didn't work out. Note to self: when I see the yarn I want, buy it immediately! Don't even dare think of coming back and getting it. That's not gonna happen. Snatch it up when I see it. *end of talk with self*

Anyway, Sunday I hung out with Grandma. And Uncle Tweet barbequed, since his kids were coming over the next day.

That looks mighty tasty. Not sure why he didn't baste it with a little sauce. There was a bunch of chicken under the ribs. Auntie was on me about having some. I was whining. Lord knows I don't want no barbeque. But then she said she had a salad in the kitchen.

*LadyLee running for the kitchen*

Yes, yes, yes... That's how you get my attention. Throw a salad in a bowl.

That was a good looking salad. I'm not a fan of iceberg lettuce, but I tore that up. Good stuff.

I hung out with Grandma and Auntie for a few hours. Auntie is leaving to go back home for a couple of weeks. One of the reasons I wanted to be off today, or at least to work reduced hours, is so that I can go and check on Grandma. My Uncle Tweet is there, and they have gone over her meds and everything. But I can at least go by and spend some my lunch time with her, and some time after work, just to see if she is doing okay by herself.

My other goal for the weekend was to spend a little time with my father. And I hung out with him yesterday for about an hour. It seems to do him well. I am still examining my thoughts and feelings about all that. I feel a bit neutral about it, and far as I am concerned, that's a good thing. He looks a lot better and seems to be more talkative. I brought my crochet with me this this, and so the time passed faster.

He smokes cigarettes and so I smelled of smoke. And my yarn smelled of smoke.

*crickets*

Hence, no more crocheting around him. I will just go over and watch those cowboy movies with him.

I will collect my thoughts and write a little about that later this week.

I need a song of the day... And there's nothing like some Jill Scott! Here is "Free"...

I have TOO many things to post this week. Toooo many. If it wasn't a shame, I'd do two posts per day. But that's too much. I think I will save some of the posts for when I don't feel like How about I just work on one per day. On purpose.

The text message came back allowing me to take the day off. Wooo-hooo!

So I will really have a good day! On purpose!

Friday Freestyles... The Abridged Holiday Edition

TGIF!

And this is really a good Friday because it is a holiday weekend!

3 days off.

Count em': 1, 2, 3!!!!

And to make a perfect friday... It is PAYDAY!

*throws cash in the air... wave my hands like I just don't CARE*

LOL

I don't have much to say today. If I write too much, this will be one long unabridged 10 page food-for-thought. So today you get the abridged edition. This is a short Friday Freestyles.

It has been an interesting week. Personally, I'm ready for September to get here. Maybe next month will be a better month, I don't know.

I went to my hematologist yesterday and she wants me to have more iron infusions.

Uh... no. NO MA'AM.

"You bringing tears to my eyes, Doc," I said. "You gonna make me cry!"

I told her that I am done. Those infusions are $250 apiece after insurance. It's been close to a couple grand out of my pocket. Not worth it. I feel fine. And if I have any more, I better be able to fly like superman or at least levitate off the ground. Either that, or hook me up with some Obamacare. And we know that's not going to happen. And I'm trying to get everything done I can this year, because when Obamacare kicks in, my cost are only gonna go higher.

I have learned much about blood and the importance of it. You know how much I like scientific stuff like that. I wish I could buy a good book on hematology.

I am a bit upside down on my meds right now, meaning that I missed my morning dosages and took them at night, stuff like that. So I have been feeling slightly loopy all week, especially in the evenings. I don't feel bad... just a little left of center. I've been sleepy very well at night, which is odd. That's a good thing. I hope it keeps up.

So this holiday weekend, I will be trying to bring myself back to my normal. Sigh.

I usually go out of town on Labor Day weekend down to "The country" with my cubicle mate "The Cowgirl Cre". I'm not up to it this weekend. But I have a full weekend planned. I have a lot of house cleaning to do, and I want to clean off my porch. I may even try to stain it. I should have done it last week since it hasn't rained all week, but I think I may be able to squeeze it in. I also need to visit with my grandmother, and of course, go sit with my father. And besides that, I will just be relaxing. I may even go catch a movie. I would like to see either The Butler or Fruitvale Station. I need to do a hard yarn run. I am having all kinds of trouble tracking down sport weight (baby) yellow yarn. So I need to hit some stores and hope that I luck up on a couple of skeins of it. I also want to get some reading and writing done. I want to make some goals for the month of September, too.

So that is it for today... And I can't forget the  song of the week.

I use to love this song as a child. "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters.

You have to be over 40 to really appreciate this song. My friends and I knew all the words to the song.

"I'm ridin' in your car... You turn on the radio..."

It brings back such happy memories of being 9 years old and singing that song at the lunch table with my friends. And when the first bars of that song played at the skating rink? We were all scrambling to get out on the floor and skate!

Those were the days!

I hope you enjoy this long Labor day weekend. It's your last chance to barbeque and swim... So do that!

On purpose!
