Friday Freestyles

It is Friday.

And I am happy!

Because I am OFF today.

I need to take Grandma to her scheduled doctor's appointment, and the appointment is smack in the middle of the day, so I may as well just take off.

And I am glad I did, because imagine my surprise when I started getting text messages about I-85 collapsing. I had NO idea, as I hadn't been watching the news regularly. But when I turned on the news... WOW.

Whoa!

That is major. And there were no injuries.

That is in midtown. I work in midtown, but not that far up. That has to be about 3 or 4 miles away.

Now, traffic already sucks in Atlanta. It is really about to look crazy. No telling how long it will take to get that fixed. That area of the interstate is old and funky. Thank goodness I don't have to go that way. There is a bowling alley down there that I like, but OH WELL.

There is a game at the new Braves stadium tonight. I may have to pop some popcorn and turn on the news and just watch the traffic monstrosity! Lawd help us ALL!

I haven't been posting like I should. I was thinking about posting everyday in April. That would good for me, as this is my therapy. I think I can spend some 30 minutes a day on blogging. SO much goes on... Why not? Not making any promises though. But it would be interesting to see what I could amass in 30 days.

So right now, the major development in my life is that I have switched supervisors at work. It 'bout knocked me over. But hey, I am resilient. I have had to make a bunch of chess moves, though, and have had to make it ABUNDANTLY clear that I did NOT have anything to do with my switch. There is nothing worse then having a supervisor busting up with microaggressions and psychological retaliation.  Women are 2nd class citizens in our workgroup. I am so surprised that a Tob.acco Womens' Lives Matter hasn't precipitated in front of our building.

"All this testosterone bothers me. Because I am low T."

This is my constant refrain. And it cracks people up. But it is true. I don't understand all the male machismo going on. More like male diva issues. And that is fine.

As long as I get my paycheck. Humph.

But when I have those concerns, I just pray about it. And I don't care who my supervisor is, really. I just need him or her to be able to go into the system and approve my time so that I can get my paycheck. Don't muck that up, and we are GOOD.

My new supervisor is out on spring break leave next week, and he has left me in charge. (I think that means that everybody will be off). So that will be a positive thing. I think I will change EVERYTHING up... uh, nope.

This will be a good experience. And that is what I declare everyday before I even leave the house. So be it.

Song of the Day. Song of the week, really.

Rick Ross released a new album. I am not a big fan of him, but dude picks the BEST beats. I wish I could just get a CD of his instrumentals. But I like in particular the Maybach Music series, as one song appears on every CD.  He is up to Maybach Music part V, which he does with Dej Loaf as a feature.

That beat is awesome. But it is not done as usual by Justice League Productions. As a matter of fact, i don't think there is any Justice League production on this CD. I wonder what happen? Did they fall out or something?

And I am NOT a Dej Loaf fan. I look forward to hearing female rappers, as they are so few and far between, but I think I would have liked her 20 years ago. Not now. But I like her on this song. Her verse is a bit sleepy, and Ross probably wrote it for her. Who knows. But I like that cut!

That is it for me. I feel better because I posted. And that's a  good thing!

25% of the year is over, and I am spending time thinking about what I want to do with the remaining 75% of the year. I am looking forward to doing great things.

And so should you...

On purpose.

Have a great weekend!

Friday Freestyles

I haven't posted all week. I can't let the weekend come without a post. NO.

Look what someone brought to the Sharbucks coffee spot at work:

Mint chocolate Kit-Kats.

Yuck.

And I only say that because I don't mint and chocolate together. Mint chocolate ice cream, mint chocolate cookies, none of that. Yuck.

But I guess some people like it.

I had to try one, just to say I tried one.

You should've seen the look on my face.

More power to those who like them.

If you like mint and chocolate together, go get some...

On purpose...

And have a nice weekend.

Ten Tuesday Thoughts

1. Today is national Pi Day! That makes the geek in me happy, seeing a mathematical symbol having
its own day.

2. I only know "pi" as 3.14.  There are people who can probably recite pi out past 100 decimal places. I can't do that.  I guess  I am not that geeky.

3. One of my workplace friends told me that they got a new job and they would be leaving. I burst into tears. Sigh.

4. I hate when people I like leave. I wonder why the workplace sociopaths who wreak workplace havoc are still around. Looks like they are always around. Sigh.

5. Favorite thing I've heard this week that I need to use in a story somehow.

"You brought a shoestring to a pair of jeans when you really needed a belt."

Something like that. I find it highly intriguing and visual.

6.  My favorite spot as of late:

It's a Vietnamese restaurant  (I think). And it be PACKED like a club, elbow to elbow, butt-to-butt. It is soooo good. I was telling LadyTee about it. Our phone conversation was... interesting.

"I got a new spot I'm hitting up!" I hollered.
 "What's that, girl?"
"Pho La. Pho Da La. Pho Dai Lai. Something like that. I don't know. Out in Forest Park, Jonesboro, over that way. It's a Vietnamese spot. Something like that. Not sure. All I know is that's the SPOT!"
*ladytee looking up new place*
"Yeah, I see it," she said. She scrolled through the pictures."This sho looks good."
"Don't be running up in there trying to pronounce the food on the menu. Everything is numbered so just say 'I want that #23 and the #4.'  Keep it simple."
"I'ma try that the next time we are over that way."
"You should. Be careful, because it be crowded like a club or a Wal-Mart on a Saturday. Every night!"

I have been there, like, three times this month. Sheesh.

It's just that awesome. I can get three meals off of one order of Pho or Bun Bi.  Great food 10 minutes from my house.

And it makes me want to go read an article on Vietnamese food so I can know what's going on.

(And excuse my ebonics. That is how we talk when we are not around white folks.).

7. My favorite song as of late: "Stop, Look, and You Have Found Love" by The Delfonics.

I am not sure what was going on at the 3:00 minute mark. I usually like when the beat changes up in a song, but not here. This change-up sounds like some freestyle gone wrong

8. That song was one of the songs in the Luke Cage series. If you haven't seen it on Netflix, check it out.

9. It is cold as all get out in my beloved ATL. The temperature is around 45 degrees, but I think it's this wind that's making life difficult!

10. But it can't be more difficult than all that snow they are getting up in the Northeast. You know a storm is going  to be bad when it''s given a name. This one is Storm Stella. Ugh.

Ya'll be safe up that way!

That is it for Ten Tuesday Thoughts.

Friday Freestyles

It is FRIDAY.

And today was PAYDAY.

And I only worked a few hours today. I felt like CRAP when I woke up this morning. So I milled around the house until my meds kicked in.

Sigh.

Anyway, I am glad for today, and the weekend. The weather in my beloved ATL is crazy. It's been warm most of the week, but it will be in the 20s and 30s for the weekend. How crazy is that.

I am also happy for the new season of shows premiering this month. I have been waiting on Humans and American Crime. And this week, the second season of one of my FAVORITE series premiered: Underground.

And Harriet Tubman is on this season. She is FIERCE. With an axe in one hand and a shotgun in the other hand, she was NOT  to be messed with.

I am glad to see Harriet Tubman portrayed on television.

And today is the anniversary of her death.

She died this day back in 1913.

Here's her obituary.

Here's a write-up about her death the day after she died.

And if you can read that 0.002 font, then you are Superman.

But I found it interesting. Look it up online.

I hate that I couldn't work all day today. Just felt trippy this morning.

I am very much thankful having over 900 hours of sick leave. I save it up just in case I gotta be laid out at home for a few months.

And for days like today.

Quote of the Day:

Don't open a can of worms you're not willing to eat!

(I think that's an EXCELLENT writing prompt. I will be using that in a story).

Speaking of writing, I am officially a published author. I have a story coming out in an anthology this summer. Details coming soon.

Thought I would just THROW that out there. Trust me.... I've been GIDDY as all get out about it.

Song of the Day:  For some odd reason, I've been listen to a lot of Patti Labelle the past couple of weeks. Here is one of my favorites by her. "If you Ask Me To"

How classic is that? And that was played at the end of one of the James Bond movies. License to Kill.

Speaking of License to Kill, that is the tiile track, the intro for the movie, and it was sung by Gladys Knight.

How AWESOME is that song? Big and bold and in your face.

I miss good music. It must be why I like oldies.

I have a writer's group meeting tomorrow. I detest the long drive (40 miles), but I always feel better when I meet with them. It's a christian writers group, and it's like someone throwing a bucket of water on me... it washes away my tomfoolery and ratchetness...

If only for the time I am there.

Always good. Always inspirational.

And that's a good thing.

Ya'll have a GREAT  weekend.

On purpose.

RIP Biggie (20th Anniversary)

So 20 years ago today Biggie Smalls was assassinated.

And I don't think they ever figured out who shot him.

I loved his first album. Really. That was the first "concept" album I'd ever heard. And I will always love concept albums because of it.

So I'm posting some videos, some of my favorites from that first CD.

We knew that first line WORD FOR WORD!

Who the f*** is this paging me at 5:46 in the morning,
Crack of dawning
Now I'm yawning
Wipe the cold out of my eye...
See who this paging me, and why!

"One More Chance"  is one of the most lyrically sound rap songs I've ever heard. I still know every word.

I remember the first time I heard that song... Me and LadyTee were riding in my old 1973 Nova down Boulevard. I had a bootleg mexican  radio, with a house speaker hanging (swinging, really) from a house speaker on the passenger side. And there were holes in the floor of the car, so you better not drop loose change.

Sigh. Those were the days.

"Me and My B*tch is some SERIOUS storytelling. Sad... But AWESOME.

The music of my twenties.

When I listen to today's music, I am *blink blink blink*

I guess I'm just getting older.

But Biggie was ALL that.

RIP Biggie.

Atmosphere is Everything

There's a Tex-Mex spot near my house that's pretty good. It's called No Mas. It's located up in the art district, up in Castleberry Hill.

(I did some research on Castleberry Hill. It was the red-light district before the Civil War. YIKES).

Anyway, I like it well enough. They have the BEST veggie tacos. I simply love them. They fill them with grilled squash... something like that. All I know is that they are GREAT.

They have a multi-page menu that's a lot to take in. But I always judge a spot on it's veggie tacos.

Anyway, it isn't the food that gets me... It's the atmosphere.

Atmosphere is everything.

And it most likely has something to do with the fact that the cost of the food is a tad bit higher than your everyday combo special from the local Taco Bell.

This place has the best decor I've ever seen in a restaurant.

And I took some pictures the last time I was there for some takeout.

This is the area where you order is a placed where you can just go for dessert and coffee/drinks (from what I understand).

Amazing artwork.

These lights are interesting.
They have a multitude of deserts.

I have never had their desserts, but they look pretty good. Maybe one day.

How awesome is this railing?

I just stared at this artwork. It looks like we might step straight into Mexico if we walk throught those big doors.
We'll step straight into... somewhere.  Or maybe we will just step into a storage closet.

And here's the dining area on the patio.
It was a bit cold that day. Hence no one was eating out on the patio.

Plus it was a weeknight. Quite a few cars in the parking lot, but everyone was inside.

I love going there just to... look. I see something different every time.

And I love their veggie tacos.

But they surely take atmosphere to another level.
