Ten Thursday Thoughts

It's that time again. 10 Thursday Thoughts.

1. It's that time! Avengers Endgame comes out tonight!

2. And yes, I have a ticket. For the six o'clock show. I want to see it before all the spoilers kick in.

3. The biggest reason I wanted to see it tonight, on a Thursday night, is because I will have my nephew Justin all weekend. Can't take little man to the movies. Nope.

4. The first movie I took my little brother to see was Terminator 2. He was 4 years old at the time, so that was in 1991?  It is a rough movie, but he enjoyed it immensely. I, on the other hand, was a nervous wreck afterwards.

5. Not sure how I am going to make it through a three hour movie tonight... especially since I have been awake since 3:30 am.

6. The movie better be good and action-packed from top to bottom. Otherwise, I will be KNOCKED OUT. My favorite theatre has 2 am and 8 am shows, and those are sold out. Who wants to see a movie in the middle of the night? Not me!

7. Joe Biden is in the race for president. I think he's run 3 times prior to this? Hmm... Hope it works out for him.

8. I refuse to watch all of these democratic debates/townhalls so early. Can we PLEASE pick a nominee who will beat Trump? And everybody and their mama just get motivated to get behind that nominee?

9. I had a tooth pulled on Monday. Surprisingly, it's not bothering me that bad. But you best believe I'm just eating soft foods right now. Don't want to take any chances with such craziness.

10. I've only had a banana and some sweet potato soufllee today. I guess I will be sneaking some graham crackers into this movie, because those will just dissolve in my mouth. There is no way I'm munching popcorn on this empty tooth socket. (Imagine one of the little hulls getting stuck in there. LAWD).

That is it for my quick thoughts on a Thursday.  Have a great evening!

Good Friday Freestyles

Happy Friday!

Happy GOOD Friday!

Happy PayDay to ME!

Yes, this is a good Friday indeed. Alas, it is raining cats and dogs and frogs in the Atlanta. UGH.

And I am getting some new living room furniture, so I had to call a junk removal company to come get the old furniture.

Now, I could have just dragged it to the street. But no telling when City of Atlanta would pick it up. And there is NO way I wanted to be looking at a couch and chair sitting out next to the mailbox for two weeks. (Yes, I have seen peoples crap sitting out for that long).

I called Peachtree Junk Removal Service. And they showed up even in the rain. And they were all smiles like it was a sunny day.

Wow.

They were in and out of my house in 10-15 minutes. They even put on little booties over their shoes so they wouldn't jack up my carpet. They were really nice and prompt. I will be using them for my garage cleanout soon. GLORY.

I don't know how they did it all with a smile.

Now, the cats were all confused, especially Mitch.

He will figure it out. I placed a blanket on the floor so they could lay on it. And I placed a tennis ball in the middle of the floor. Maybe they will have a good time with all that empty space.

Otherwise it has been an uneventful day. And it is Friday, AND a payday, so the blinds of my mind are half closed. I got a couple of hours worth of stuff done, but that's about it. I will just go ahead and plan for next week. That's all I can do.

Song of the Week. I found a song by Andersen.Paak, on his new Ventura CD, that I absolutely LOVE.

"Come Home" (Featuring Andre 3000)

That song is AWESOME. I loved-ed it! And when Andre 3000 chimes in at the end... My goodness. I really miss him and Outkast in general.

That is it for me. I am not doing anything special for Easter. Haven't in years. I take time to pontificate the reason for the season. No new dress for me.

Have a good Friday and a Great Easter! On Purpose!

Nephews... All Dressed Up!

So my nephews got all dressed up for picture day. It's Milk and Cookies Jr. and Milk and Cookies 3.0, Shawn and Tristan!

I would have liked to seen them in some slacks and wing tips. But this is the true definition of a good picture day. I use to put on a decent enough blouse when I was little. And here, they have on shirt and tie. You're only taking a picture from the waist up. I am good with that, and it's a great idea...

Now this little fella here, my nephew Justin, is trying on his Easter suit.

Man, I saw that little handsome man, and he looks like he's about he's the guest preacher at somebody's church!!

"Everybody say Amen! And now we have a young man coming to the stage, and I know he's gonna bless us today. Can I get an Amen?"

AMEN!!!

LOL

He looks nice in his Easter suit. I didn't even remember they made suits that small.

And it's way too funny to me because Justin is not down for clothes when he's in the house. He'd rather run around in his diaper. LOL.

My nephews... they are such handsome little guys.

Friday Freestyles

Friday!

And it is PAYDAY.

Glory!

I ain't got a THANG done all day.

And there is nothing much I could do about that because I am waiting on an order of chemicals to arrive. So all I have to do right now is paperwork.

So it has been slow, slow, slow.

Adventure of the week I.  I have been running around trying to get Pam to pass her emissions.

The car is 22 years old, and every year, it takes a minute to get that emissions done, because I have to catch her when the light is on.  So this week, there has been a lot of driving and running to and fro, and right now, the computer isn't ready. So I will keep driving her.

You should see me driving, though. I am looking back and forth in the side view mirrors, looking for the cops! I am constantly checking my rearview mirror. It has been wrecking my nerves.

I found out that I could get a 30 day extension on my emissions. So we will see how that works out. At least I'm not riding dirty right now! And that's a good thing!

I like driving this car, but if I have to let it go, I will. I haven't had any repairs on it for at least 5 years, and it's a great extra car, but living in downtown Atlanta... LAWD have mercy, the insurance is high. I make decent money, and I am debt free (minus the house), and I am meeting my savings goals, so for now, we will keep Pam. And in 3 more years, the car will be 25 years old, and she will no longer need to go through this emissions process. GLORY.

Adventure of the week II. But on a good note, there's a new gentrified Whole Foods open near where I work.

And it's 4 stories tall. Best believe we have been whispering about that place for a minute. I will write about that next week.

Song of the week. Not necessarily a song, but a mini-concert from NPR's Tiny desk concert. Leikeli47.

That was AWESOME. That band made it awesome. I have seen this rapper before, but she throws me off with the whole bandana face mask thing. That's her brand so more power to her. I like her voice and she has good content. All I know is that this will go down as one of my favorite Tiny Desk's concerts.

And I love how the band is the "TSA band", with their TSA shirts on. LOL. I wonder if they work for the TSA for real. I would definitely buy an album by them. For real, tho.

But that's it for my week. It has been pretty slow at work. Dayum near everybody is gone for spring break. Ugh. Next week, back to normal.

But right now, I am FEENIN' for the weekend. And I hope to make it a good one... on purpose!

When the Randomness is Left on my Desk...

It is always interesting to trudge in to work, all dejected, doing all I can to "pray my strength in the Lord"...

...And I turn to walk in my cubicle and find some randomness left on my desk.

*LadyLee looks to the left... LadyLee looks to the right*

My cubicle area of about 30 cubicles is notoriously quiet, so quiet that you can hear a rat licking ice.

But every time I find a surprise on my desk, I want to sang a randomly concocted negro LadyLee spiritual!

"Yes Lord, Yes Lord, I was on your mind this morning!
Yes Lord, yes Lord you thought 'bout me this morning!"

I never do this. I just ponder and wait to understand who left it. (There was no note or anything).

(The last thing left on my desk a couple of weeks ago was a freshly baked maple scone. I'd given my coworker a pint of pure Vermont maple sugar. He likes to bake and it was one of his special creations. It was quite tasty!)

I have a couple of Asian coworkers, who, when they travel back to Asia for a few weeks, they return with treats.

I didn't know for a few days who left it on my desk.

That didn't stop me from eating it, though.

This is the one in the larger yellow wrapper.

That one was good! Tasted like a straight up Butterfinger. I wanted another one of those. The other candy in a similar wrapper was the same. So good!

The little brown one was a coffee hard candy. That was good too.

Now, the white candy is some type of nougat, which was clearly printed on the package. I don't fool with that type of thing, for I would be trying to replace some dental work. And that ish is expensive. No ma'am. No sir.

Then there was this bizarre little package. (I didn't get one, but it was on someone else's desk. But it was a SERIOUS conversation piece).

I tore open the package and found what looked like something that looked like dried green peas.

I tried to give some to the coworker who's desk I found it on.

"I ain't eating that sh*t," she said under her breath, eyes unblinking and daring me to challenge her. I let her be, and I tasted them myself.

I could not figure out what it was. It took eating the whole package of 10-15 dried peas, and with that, I could still only guess.

Of course, the package didn't give any clue to what was going on.

Sigh. The best I could come up was that the dried seeds from inside the green bean pods. They were good.

I love getting random stuff on my desk. I think the surprise of it all is what makes me happiest.

Now if someone could only leave a random winning lottery ticket on my desk, I'll be all good!

That's My Girl! That's the Homie!

Congratulations to the great Tayari Jones for her NAACP Image Award for best literature fiction for her novel American Marriage!

I had to watch it on the playback of Facebook Live, but when they called her name, I jumped up off the bed and hollered "YAY CELIE!! YAY CELIE!! That's my girl! That's the Homie! That's the Homie!!!"

('Bout scared my cats to death. They didn't know what the world was going on).

Look at her picture below. That must be the standard portrait that one takes with their award.

First, how FIRE is that dress?

Second, if I was her, I would have that picture blown WAY up and framed and placed on the wall. (I have been to her house a few times. You doggone best know I am going to offer my opinion of where it should go).

How awesome is this dress right here, though? WOW.

Man oh man. That is a nice dress. Fits her just right. GO GIRL! That's the homie right there!

I am so doggone proud of her. I fondly remember reading the rough drafts of American Marriage, and finishing up parts and dialing up her number. When she was slow to answer, I would hang up and repeatedly dial her up... until she answered.

"Celie, pick up this phone!" I'd squeal.
"I'm sorry, I was on the train, Nettie!" she would holler back.
"Oh, my bad, homie," I would say half apologetically. "But I'm sitting here saying 'This chick gonna answer this doggone phone!"

LOL

Fond memories!

And here we are now. Winning the awards. Get it girl! That's the homie!!

I can't wait for her to get back home to the ATL. She lives in my 'hood, so I am going to roll up on her. I'm gonna give her a hug and then ask to hold that award.

An award so well deserved!

Congratulations Tayari!!
