LadyLee Favorites: Ice Cream

I really love ice cream.

But I don't eat much of it because it gives me serious mucus issues. And that is putting it mildly. Anything over a scoop is a problem. I hope I'm not becoming lactose intolerant. I like good ice cream, so I just have to deal. I like ice creams made form cashews, coconut, or almonds. But I still love dairy ice cream. Sigh.

So as a result, I don't mind paying good money for expensive locally made small batch ice creams.

One of my favorites is Bourbon pecan ice cream.

It's not the butter pecan ice cream of your childhood, honey.

It's made with a little bourbon. That makes it ice cream for Grown Folks.

LOL

This is a locally made ice cream. And it retails at $6.99 a pint, which is the going rate for such specialty ice creams.

It has that bourbon in it. It is definitely not enough to make me walk sideways or fall flat on my face, but I can a taste a slight slight hint of it.

And it is quite tasty.

I'm not sure I would buy it if there's a bunch of folk living in the house. It's the type of ice cream that would get gone... real fast. If I bought it, I would have to hide it way in the back of the freezer where no one could find it.

I don't have those issues. It takes me 2-3 weeks to get through a pint of ice cream.

So that's one of my favorite ice cream...

What's your favorite ice cream?

Bootleg Bookmarks

I posted this blanket last week:

It required 600 squares.

One thing about making a blanket with so many squares is that there are always extra squares.

No, they are never from the pot or bowl or bag I store them in, for use as I crochet.  They are the squares I find when I am moving furniture to vacuum the carpet.

A square here, a square there...

Sometimes they are lodged between the sofa cushions. I think I even found one in Oscar's bed.

And from the Mellow Yellow blanket, I found 9 squares scattered about.

I usually throw them away.  I thought about giving them to my work group specialist.

He saw some of my crochet project laying on my desk and decided to pick it up and give it a try.
He is terribly impatient. He loves to debate and argue. And he stands too close up in my personal space (you can tell that in the picture... look at the location of my arm).

It's one thing to argue over science, but come on, man. I don't want to argue about crochet.

Good thing he has a short attention span. He sat it down and walked away.

Like I said, I was going to throw the squares away. I am still finding squares from blankets made years ago, and this seems to be the best thing to do. One of my friends said "No, save them!"

"For what?" was my reply. I don't see myself making a yellow blanket like that any time soon.

She didn't know why I should save them.

So I did. Just for her. And I crocheted them into strips.
We'll just call them... bookmarks. Yes, bootleg bookmarks.

I am sure she will look at me half crazy when I give them to her. But she is gracious, never one to hurt my feelings.

It reminds me of the items I made when I finished up Tayari Jones' blanket, Fernie Mae.

(I did not name that blanket. She named that blanket. I am sure it means something. She is deep off the pages like that).

I made potholders.

I still had a lot of yarn left over. Oh well. That was 5 or 6 years ago. I have no idea where that extra yarn is. Maybe I threw it out. But making those potholders were quick and fun little projects.

And making the bootleg bookmarks was fun too...

Hopefully my friend will enjoy them.

Monday Night Fights

I meant to post this morning, but I had something to do.

Lucy Jr. was taken to the shop.

No worries. Her suspension is a little squeaky and I want to go ahead on and get that worked on.

The mechanic had to really drive it and hit some bumps just to hear it.

It reminded me of when I was test driving it.  Lady M, the seller, said a couple of times "Do you hear that squeak?"

My answer was no. And she said it needed new mounts. I saw it in her mechanic recommendation paperwork. And I thought, hmmm... we will cross that road when we get to it. I told my mechanic about what she said and he said don't bother with it unless I hear it. And now, some 8 months later, I hear it.

So let's take care of that before the beginning of 2014.

When I ride in Lucy Jr., I want to feel like I'm in a hanglider. No squeaks. Thank you very much.

Anyway, this was a good quiet weekend. I was SO happy not to have to work on Saturday. Oh my. Thought I would never say that.

I didn't even leave the house. I really needed to go to the electronics store and to pick up my meds but I didn't want to get caught up with a bunch of frenzied folks fighting in the aisles over deals. Not a good look.

Now, I participated in Black Friday once.  It was some 10 years ago, I believe, with my sister. We were standing in line at Macy's at 5 in the morning. I bought some plates or something half off.

Wasn't worth it. I don't even think I have those plates anymore. Hence, no more black Friday.

Speaking of my sister, she and I had to have another long long talk...

... after she got into a massive fight with my mother. At least they were on the phone. But it was bad nevertheless.

I tell you, these days, all I can do is listen. I always get the notion to call up mother and tell her about herself, but I don't want all the windows of my house and car busted out. It is something my sister is going to have to work out in some way. I'm not getting in that.

My sister is very quiet and she was shaken up over hearing herself yell and scream at someone.

I told her that sometimes people just take you there. I myself stay far from such people. People have taken me there and trust me, that's the last time we are talking. I don't have time for that type of high drama. Go sell that elsewhere.

But it all reminds me not to let my self-worth, self-esteem, and self-love be dependent on being accepted by someone. Never. That should come from inside.  The older I get, the more I realize that.

So I do my job of picking pieces of her heart up off the floor.

And I am realizing that it is a vicious cycle. I will be bending down picking up pieces of her heart again... and again.

And as a big sister that is what I do.

Oh well...

I need a good song. Some Earth Wind and Fire!!!

You know how I love Earth Wind and Fire! *backflips*

"Can't Hide Love"

"You want my love... betcha... oooooooh... Bet-CHA!!!"

As you can tell, that's my favorite part of the song. Yes indeed.

LOL.

That is all for Monday Night fights.  I get up early in the morning and turn Lucy Jr. in to the mechanic. Then I ride the train to work.  OH JOY! What interesting things will I see on the MARTA train tomorrow??

I am looking forward to a good week. Especially since it will be warming up to near 70.  Glory!

This year is 92.3% over.  That means we only have a little time left to get it ALL done.

Whatever "all" is!

So go ahead and work that out!  On purpose!

Hello December!

Oh my.  I am soooo glad December is here.

Not because it is the Christmas season. I don't care for the holidays much. I would rather for the hustle and bustle of it all to be over.

But November was such a blur. I haven't worked so hard on the job in a long time, even having to work a couple of Saturdays.  And I mean working 8 to 9 hours on a Saturday. That is something I definitely don't do or care for.

But because of the furlough, October's work was crammed into November's work.

Alas, a fond farewell to November.

I may even take off tomorrow. Or work half a day. We will see.

I want to try to post everyday this month. I feel as if I have just neglected my blog. That's not good.

It's the end of the year, and I have a little more time to think and post.

And that's a good thing.
