book giveaway winners (2nd quarter 2009)

Excuse that last post, I was all over the place and was not all that ecstatic about returning to work. I had a glass of almond milk and an apple, and I feel much better, lol.

On to happier news...

I yanked my sister Kentucky out of bed this morning and forced her to pull the winners out of the solid gold ziplock bag, lol.

And here are your winners!!

Sonya and The Brown blogger, Hassan!

Congratulations! You just won fabulous prizes. Hassan, you get Write it Down, Make it Happen. Sonya, you get Confessions of a Beautiful Woman.

Congratulations to the winners of these lovely prizes. Email your info to me, and I will get those out to you!

  1. OMG!!! I won something! I won something! I never one anything -- not even a dang extra scratch off ticket. Even Oscar Tyrone has one an extra ticket! Jeez.

Okay -- as I am accepting my reward I would like to thank the following (Yes -- I am pretending that I won an actual award -- I have been called on stage, I beat Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, and Harriet Tubman - I have on my FIERCE little black dress. My hair is done (unlike some of the stars who show up looking like Buckwheat reincarnated -- lol)...

Okay -- I would like to thank Lady Lee (Celie) for pulling my name. Without my name on the little pink sticky, there would be no win for me or Hassan (Hassan is about to come up to accept his award -- he is giving me the look to shut it up and get off the stage)....

I would like to thank my Mom -- she first introduced me to reading at a very young age, along with my big Mama.

I would like to thank Oscar Tyrone. He give me inspiration each day -- I often live vicariously through him (um...I know this may sound strange but I tell ya, that cat is HUMAN...)

I would like to thank all all my old book club sistahs from COFII, keep ya head up. And this too shall past -- lets move forward and create beautiful literary music together!

Last, I would like to thank Facebook. I would not have met Lee and other friends without Facebook. Sure, I need a FB intervention, sure I spend way too much time on here, sure I have missed a few deadlines, but I logged in and guess what? I WON SOMETHING!!

    IZE WON!! IZE WON!!

Uh... yeah, Sonya. Well, you won Blogger Chele's book, Confessions of a Beautiful Woman. It's a great book, right up your alley. It is one of my favorite books indeed.

Yeah, uh... get your info to me over in Facebook inbox. You'll be at NBCC next week, right? Well, if you want me to mail it, then cool. If you want to grab it while you're here, that's cool too.

    Yeah, uh... enjoy your book...

I have many to thank, but instead I would like to take this time to use as a platform to inspire, so instead of shout outs, I will email all of those with good folk a little gratitude in their inboxes.

I want to leave all of you with words that inspired me to read more as a youth. Once I overstood this, I never looked back, well except to make sure the 20% off new titles sign was posted by the cash register over at the Borders checkout.

    Well, here goes:

    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.
    Conjunction Junction, how's that function?
    I got three favorite cars
That get most of my job done.
    Conjunction Junction, what's their function?
I got "and", "but", and "or",
    They'll get you pretty far.

    [spoken] "And":
That's an additive, like "this and that".
    "But":
    That's sort of the opposite,
    "Not this but that".
    And then there's "or":
O-R, when you have a choice like
    "This or that".
    "And", "but", and "or",
    Get you pretty far.

[sung] Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up two boxcars and making 'em run right.
Milk and honey, bread and butter, peas and rice.
    Hey that's nice!
Dirty but happy, digging and scratching,
Losing your shoe and a button or two.
He's poor but honest, sad but true,
    Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up two cars to one
When you say something like this choice:
    "Either now or later"
    Or no choice:
    "Neither now nor ever"
    Hey that's clever!
Eat this or that, grow thin or fat,
Never mind, I wouldn't do that,
    I'm fat enough now!

    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up phrases and clauses that balance, like:
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
    He cut loose the sandbags,
But the balloon wouldn't go any higher.
Let's go up to the mountains,
    Or down to the seas.
You should always say "thank you",
    Or at least say "please".

    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses
    In complex sentences like:
[spoken] In the mornings, when I'm usually wide awake, I love to take a walk through the gardens and down by the lake, where I often see a duck and a drake, and I wonder, as I walk by, just what they'd say if they could speak, although I know that's an absurd thought.

    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up cars and making 'em function.
    Conjunction Junction, how's that function?
I like tying up words and phrases and clauses.
    Conjunction Junction, watch that function.
I'm going to get you there if you're very careful.
    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
I'm going to get you there if you're very careful.
    Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
I'm going to get you there if you're very careful.

I am grateful to receive this.
    Reading is FUNdemental!

    Thank you.
