At Home In the Words I write...I've missed Blogging
-
These days of Summer are sweet and fleeting. I've been away too long. Away
from this blog. This holy place where I live on the words I conjure.
So much goo...

Crunchy Black ... LOL. Three-six mafia probably woke up this morning scratching their heads too.
ReplyDeleteok, i think this topic has a lot of folks doing the scooby-doo "HUH!?!" what a hot country mess!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNot really... Google up the lyrics and then (re) watch the movie. Academy members can only nominate songs that are intergral to the plot and overall summation of the film (the rules). I was going to blog on this but after TiVo'ing the awards so I wouldn't miss it last week, I pulled the soundtrack out and listened to the song. Again. And then I listened to the other songs nominated. I assesed that Three 6's song was the only song that had merit (well, that and Dolly's)and would probably win. The Dolly Parton song... we heard that before. That's why there was no surpise, shock or awe when the Mafia won by the audience members (all members of the Academy, of course). What happened was they actually voted for a song that had more to do with the movie this year than in past years. Just so happened that this one was a hip hop diddy. And a little vulgar for the average listener's taste (but it was a song about the tale of a pimp, so vulgar to whom?)Oh, and the fact that Hustle and Flow was seen more by white folk (I actually had to see this flick in a suburban theater due to limited inner city release (see: concerns of violence)than black folk and sales figures place H&F in the low 2 millions outside of large urban areas says one thing. Black folk no longer validate hip hop.
ReplyDeleteThis means that hip hop is on it's way to ecoming the new jazz. We rebuke our own shit. Not saying that we have to accept it (this coming from the cats that brought you "Hooked On The Pussy" and "Tear The Club Up"), but remember, Three 6 was commissioned to write this song based on their reputation to crunk a hit out and the fact that they are from Memphis, where the story took place. The filmmakers wanted authentic Memphis rappers and the Memphis sound to be the true voice of what really goes on down there.
Mission accomplished.
You know Hassan? Yeah...what he said!
ReplyDeletedont hate.. Pimpin aint easy.
ReplyDeleteLOL
And Hassan,
I pray Hip Hop sint going the way of jazz. My son is out there on tour.
@Hassan, Sharon, and bdw...
ReplyDelete*Ladylee ducking the bricks and stomps in the head*
LOL!
Shhhh... calm down... it's okay...
It's alright, ya'll... I actually liked the song in the context of the movie, even though I hate today's hip-hop. (I actually liked the movie, which I did not expect).
I'm just scratching my head over it actually winning, that's all. Especially since like we all have seen over the years that they give actor/actress awards to the sentimental favorite (some oldie who has never won) instead of someone who actually deserved it, etc (although this seems to be changing over the years)... Actually, I thought Dolly would win even though the song was crap. I'm just a little confused and perplexed that's all...
And I am a bit confused that a positive song like "I believe I can fly" never got nominated... But this one did... hmmmm.
But it's alright ya'll...It's all love, ya'll! Let's all hold hands and just love on each other!!
Sigh, another Oscar post, LOL! I didn't watch because I can't stand award shows but I was just glad Reese won. I didn't care or pay attention to anything else about the Oscars.
ReplyDelete@Stacy-D... Sorry 80's love child. And I too am glad Reese won (I have always loved Reese's acting!). That was the true highlight of the evening for me.
ReplyDeleteBut I will have a nicer "my usual self" post later today...
@dp...
ReplyDeletealright, then, that makes since...That clears up some things. I just remember the uproar about it long ago...
Shoot, that's sad... That's one of only a couple of positive R&B songs from movies that I can remember. ~sigh~
Purple Rain
ReplyDeleteLOL! That's all right, Lady. I ain't mad at you. At least yours is interesting. I'm tired of all those, " What people wore at the Oscars " posts. Yours was a nice change. And the way that rap group was dressed to accept their award was a damn shame. I didn't watch but I saw them afterwards. If you don't dress up for national television, let alone the Oscars, when do you dress? Other rappers dress for the occassion like (Jay-Z, LL. Cool J, and Diddy). Shoot even 50 Cents knows to wear a suit and tie when you accept an award! Why couldn't these three folks? Goodness, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhere ya at?! Last week I had to light some fire under the Lady DJ and Madame Serenity, and now it looks like you are buying into this idea of some "universal quota" on the number of blog posts allowed at one time. Now that the three of you have hounded me into regular posting, y'all wanna go on VACATION! Well, I'm here to say, "I'M NOT HAVING IT!"
ReplyDeleteNow GET TO POSTIN' SISTA! I know I got some ego on me, but DAMN even I don't read my own posts...givva sista somethin' to read...(ROFLMBAO!!!!!!)
@DJ... doggonit DJ... that is one of the songs I remember... you are the music guru... try again!
ReplyDelete@Stacy-D... Leave those boys alone... They probly don't have tuxes!
@Sharon... something is wrong with blogger... It won't let me load my photos, and you KNOW how I am about my photos! So I will have to share some personal ish in a blog post today, until the situation is corrected... And you know I don't like that...Ugggghhhhh!
