Sister Callie Faces

For some odd reason, Sister Callie Jo likes to sit on the closed toilet seat and watch me brush my teeth.

She is completely mesmerized by this process.

And you can see that all in her face. Her eyes are wide and non-blinking.

She stays that way until I finish brushing my teeth and I start brushing my hair.

And when I finish putting a little shea butter/coconut oil on my hair, I hit her hair with the excess off of my hands...

I think it bothers her. She is not pleased.

Not pleased at all.

LOL

Sleep... and Play

Dedicated to Chele, who's about to become a grandmother:)

So this is what our past holiday weekend looked like.

The Good Sista Callie know she know how to relax.

Yes... that's what that looked like. Sleeping hard.

Bootleg hairbrush picture!!

There was some playing, too. Little Justin can stand up now. And that means making my place baby-friendly.

Justin likes to reach for EVERYTHING and put it all in his mouth. Ugh.

He tried to eat the box that his baby legos came in.

NOT a good look.
Mitch was optimistic and hopeful when he saw the legos.

But he is still a bit confused by Justin. He wants to play, but he watches him from a safe enough distance.

Food, family, sleep... and play. Nothing like it in the world!

Callie and Mitch

Callie is forever sitting on that stool watching me cut up fruit...

I thought the tree would scare her away, but it's not. She likes having a front row seat to the goings-on in the kitchen.

And she isn't pleased that I am cutting up simple fruit. I think she is more interested to see if I am cutting up something more interesting like meat.

Mitch, on the other hand, is simply looking for a soft place to lay his big body.

And he has no problem finding that special place!

Happy Birthday Sister Callie

I meant to mention it last month, but I forgot.

(Even though I look at her every single day)

Happy 3rd Birthday, Sister Callie Jo.

Here's a picture of her as a kitten.

She was only 0.75 pounds when I got her. I could encircle her little chest with my index finger and thumb.

She is a big 9 pound cat now.

And she's always into this that and the other.

When I see a towel move, I know she's involved.

She is constantly on guard when the Big Orange Monster growls in front of our house.

She likes to sleep here and there while keeping watch from her lookout post  (the window).

She likes pushing boulders through big tunnels, meaning, she is very much into these toys given to her by the Cowgirl Cre.

For some odd reason when I sit at the dining room table, she tries to balance on the chair and my back and practice her  acrobatic moves.

When she falls and busts her azz... hilarious.

She likes to forage food  from  the forest floor, i.e., she likes to eat the spinach that falls to the floor while I fix my salads.

One day I was having a personal shredding party and shredding old bills. I was emptying the paper clippings in a box to discard later. Bust Sister Callie found the clippings and made  a bed out of them.
That was all well and good.   I could just leave it there for her.

But  I came home one day from work  and saw this:

Humph.

Now it was one thing to come home and have to pick up a few paper clippings that had been tracked out across the floor. This took no more than a minute or so. But when I saw the box completely knocked over, that was it for them.

She and Mitch glared at me as I had the nerve to clean up and vacuum their cozy bed. I threw ALL those clippings away.

They were not happy about that

That's too doggone bag.

She's a good cat. She's HIGHLY active, and always looking for something to get into. Sigh.

My sister Kentucky is HER person, and she makes it clear that I am not her person.  I have no idea where she sleeps at night (she tends to hide).

But with all that? Still a nice cat.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Sister Callie Jo!

The Big Orange Monster

Every weekday morning, a big orange monster stands in front of my house and growls like crazy.

Well, it's not exactly a monster. But by the way Sister Callie Jo acts, you would think it is.

This monster, this big orange school bus, began stopping in front of my house a couple of months ago. Callie gets all riled up, so I think it is the most exciting part of her day.

I have sat at the window at 7:30 am when the bus comes. Callie and I watch to see who is getting picked up.

But no one gets on the bus.

And no one gets off the bus.

Hmm. Not sure what that's about.

I will only assume that the bus driver is taking a much needed break before she picks up the school kids. Maybe she doesn't want to arrive at the next stop too early.

I wonder if the bus driver would stop in front of my house if he or she knew how Callie would get all excited, ready to attack?

Maybe they will. Maybe they won't.

All I know is that the bus needs a tune up or a new muffler because it is too early in the morning for all that noise.

Monday Funnies

That look I get from Callie Jo and Mitch when I sneeze too hard...

Semi-Wordless Wednesday.

I get nervous when Mitch and Callie are quiet... and staring at me.  Especially that Callie Jo...

It always means they are planning something.

Hmmm...

Sister Callie Jo Antics

I have paper blinds in my house.

And there is a reason why I have paper blinds.

Look what Callie Jo did:

Ugh.

She must've seen a bug or something. And lost her mind.

It took me all of 5 minutes to cut and paste a new one.

But I let her know about herself.

"Gal, it took 5 minutes out of my life to put up new blinds. You better get your life together!"

LOL

Of course she hides or retreats to the beams over the living room.

She knows what she has done. No way she'd let me get a hold of her.

She will probably tare more down. I hope she grows out of it.

Maybe then I can buy a curtain or two.

Tales of the Beams

My cats love the beams that criss-cross my living room.

Not much time goes by (usually every few days) that I'm trying to leave for work and I'm trying to locate cats that one or both of them are laying up on the beams looking down at me.

They don't care if I'm about to be late to work. There is more of the attitude of...

We gonna lay here and be quiet and watch this fool run back and forth downstairs looking for us.

Humph.

I just be trying to make sure neither one of them is all shut up in my bedroom all day without food, water, or the litter box.

But something interesting happened the other day: there was a stand off on the beams. And it lasted some 15  minutes, both of them standing erect as statues, chests out and at attention.

I let this go on. It's usually them just trying to get around each other. But this time, Callie Jo was intentionally blocking Mitch's exit from the beams. And he wasn't happy about it. As a matter of fact, Mitch would reach out and take a swipe at Callie.

And she would block his paw with some awesome Karate kid wax-on-wax-off ninja moves.

I was laying on the sofa watching television... and watching them. This was interesting to watch for awhile, but I didn't want either of them to fall the 10 feet to the ground below. I was not interested in spending any amount of money getting any broken bones mended.

So I yelled at them.

"What the hell wrong with ya'll?  Ya'll better stop all that mess!"

They didn't scramble or jump in fear of my booming voice, but the look they gave me was CLASSIC.

That look says... What in the world are you yelling for?

Hilarious.

Soon after my shouts, Callie left the beams, and Mitch followed close behind.

I'm not sure what they got into after that.

I was just glad any potential high-beam fights were thwarted.

Thank goodness for that.

This all makes me wonder what they get into when I'm not home...

Hmm...

A Shady Sister Callie Jo

My male cat Mitch is such a sweet fellow... very laid back, rarely get into things.

Such a sweet, bright eyed-fellow.

He reminds me of Ol' Oscar Tyrone... sigh.

But that doggone Sister Callie Jo...

She is ALWAYS up to something. My sister thinks she is crazy yet gifted. I just think she is crazy.

So...

LadyTee bought me a bamboo plant for my birthday. I cringed, because all of my plants are fake plastic plants. Anything else, and the cats will chew on them.

(What I find amazing is that Mitch and Callie chew on the fake plants. *crickets*. That's another story for another day).

Anyway, I thought about taking the real plant to work. That's what I do with my real plants... get them out the house real quick and take them to work.

But I figured I would put it up on the mantle. There's too much stuff for the up there for the cats to make a go for that plant.

Or so I thought...

In comes Sister Callie, with her, uh, gifted self.

She was sitting on top of a shoe box, which was sitting on top of their kennel. I don't know why I have the kennel in the house. I usually keep it in the garage. I never took it out after their last vet visit.

Anyway, she was sitting on top of the shoe box... and she was staring at me.

This went on for quite awhile. I only noticed because she never stays still for so long.

Hmm...

Then I saw her working out things in her mind:

I was wondering what she was thinking. She was thinking about that bamboo plant on the mantel up in the upper right hand corner of the picture.

And then it happened...

She made a play for that plant....

I didn't even have to yell at her because that shoe box began wobbling as she tried to balance on the edge of it with her toes. And she stopped short of her goal.

I guess busting her tail on the floor wasn't an option.

Funniest thing ever.

I had a good laugh.

I laughed, but I also made a note to go ahead on and take that plant to work. I also moved the crate and shoe box.

I know she will work out some crazy plan to get a hold of that plant.

With her gifted and crazy self.

Sister Callie and Mitch on Some Mornings

I look for the cats in the morning before I leave for work to make sure they're not closed up in my bedroom. I usually can find them, as they are eating or looking out the windows. But some days I can't find them, and I get frantic if I'm running late.

Sometimes I forget to look up...

I forget that they tend to hang out on the beams.

.
I feel silly for not looking up over my head.

Yet Sister Callie and Mitch are looking at me from up there and probably thinking "Look at that fool running around calling our names. She's too silly to look up and see us. Ha ha."

Humph.

They've been getting into fights up there lately, and I am sure someone has fallen.

Don't hurt yourselves, cats. I don't want to pay hefty vet bills.

And for goodness sake, don't take out that ceiling fan!

Please, don't.

Sister Callie Jo Blues

Poor Sister Callie Jo...

She is still struggling with my sister Kentucky, her "special person" being gone.

She doesn't care for people, but she became attached to my sister.

So her struggle continues. My sister left a pair of flip flops, and Callie Jo has been carrying them around. I can usually find her somewhere near the flip flops. She even carries them around. And she lays somewhere near them most of the time.

Poor Sista Callie. All splayed out on the floor showing her bizness. Forever hanging on to the flip flops.

So...

I notice that she observes when I go in and out of the front door. This is a rarity since I use the door that goes out and down into the garage more frequently. But she has been highly observant.

I placed a step ladder near the door. I put up another set of paper blinds, as she had tore up the last one trying to catch a fly or something. (I refuse to buy curtains or blinds. I have had blinds and curtains destroyed by cats. Sigh).

Sista Callie had some ideas.

She'd been studying me closely. And she was going to open that door!

She tried hard to turn it with her paws. Then she would try to wrap her mouth around the doorknob and open the door. Hilarious!

But what got me was her deadbolt action.

She worked hard on that. To no avail, of course. After about 15 minutes, she gave up.

Oh well.

I wonder how she will act when my sister comes back.

I have no idea.

At least she has her shoes. That will have to do for now.

Happy 1st Birthday Sister Callie Jo!

So...

Sister Callie has officially lost her kitten status. She is 1 years old. She is officially a CAT.

I miss when she was a real kitten... A 0.5 pound little bundle of energy that I got for free down in Middle Georgia. A true country cat.

She was so sweet when she was a kitten. Correction: when she was a kitten that was asleep.

I remember when she was spayed, and I remember the awful e-collar she had to wear.

For some odd reason, she REALLY liked that collar. Just odd.

Callie has freakishly long legs now.
Bored kitty with freakishly long legs.

Enjoy your day, Callie Jo... I know you will get your sleep on.

(Man oh man... I wish I could stretch out on the floor like that... right now.  Right this very moment.  At work. My new boss wouldn't know what to do! LOL)

I am NOT doing anything special for Sister Callie. Maybe I will give her a couple of  kitty treats.  Yeah, I will do that.

Happy Birthday Sister Callie Jo!!
